Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital

Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF).

Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced perioperative nurse to join Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital as a Clinical Nurse Lead – Theatre. Working within our busy and well-established surgical service, this role plays a key part in supporting the day-to-day coordination of theatre operations while providing clinical leadership to a skilled and dedicated nursing team. With a strong orthopaedic caseload and a broad range of surgical specialties, you’ll be at the heart of delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care.

As a hands-on leader, you’ll work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure theatre lists run smoothly, resources are effectively coordinated, and patients receive an exceptional standard of care. You’ll lead by example, supporting staff development, fostering a positive team culture, and promoting best practice across all aspects of perioperative nursing.

Beyond operational leadership, you’ll contribute to workforce planning, quality improvement initiatives, and service development, helping to enhance both patient outcomes and team performance. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while continuing to grow your leadership capability within a highly respected healthcare organisation.

This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), permanent position based at Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital on Auckland’s North Shore.

  • A minimum of 3 years' post-registration experience within an orthopaedic theatre environment
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to guide, support, and influence clinical teams
  • Strong clinical judgement and the ability to confidently manage competing priorities in a fast-paced setting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working across multidisciplinary teams
  • A calm, approachable, and solutions-focused leadership style
  • Confidence using digital systems and adapting to new technologies
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development, including postgraduate study completed or in progress
  • A passion for quality improvement, patient safety, and excellence in perioperative practice
  • PDRP Level 4 (Expert) or progress towards achieving this level
