Position:  Wall & Floor Tiler

Job Location: Taupo

Type: Permanent, Full time 

Days required: Rotating roster, including weekends

Hours per week: 30 to 35 hours per week

Hourly Pay: $30-$35 per hour 

We are seeking an experienced and reliable Wall and Floor Tiler to join our growing team. The successful applicant will carry out high-quality wall and floor tiling work on residential and commercial construction and renovation projects while ensuring compliance with New Zealand Building Code requirements

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Reading and interpreting plans, drawings and specifications to determine tiling layouts and job requirements. 
• Measuring, marking and setting out wall and floor surfaces for tile installation. 
• Preparing surfaces by removing existing tiles, grout and adhesives, repairing cracks and defects, levelling surfaces and ensuring substrates are suitable for tiling. 
• Applying waterproofing membranes and moisture barriers in wet areas in accordance with New Zealand standards. 
• Mixing and applying adhesives, mortars and grouts to manufacturer specifications. 
• Cutting, shaping and trimming ceramic, porcelain, marble, slate, granite, glass and mosaic tiles using manual and powered cutting equipment. 
• Laying wall and floor tiles accurately, ensuring correct alignment, spacing and levels. 
• Installing decorative tile patterns, feature walls and mosaic designs where required. 
• Grouting, sealing and cleaning tiled surfaces to achieve a professional finish. 
• Repairing, replacing and re-grouting damaged or worn tiled surfaces. 
• Calculating material quantities and minimising wastage. 
• Maintaining tools and equipment in good working condition. 
• Following workplace health and safety procedures and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. 
• Working effectively with supervisors, builders and other trades to complete projects within deadlines.

Skills Required:

• A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or overseas equivalent), or at least two years of relevant work experience. 
• Proven experience in residential and/or commercial wall and floor tiling. 
• Sound knowledge of waterproofing systems, adhesives, grouts and tiling materials. 
• Ability to read construction drawings and specifications. 
• High attention to detail and excellent workmanship. 
• Good physical fitness and ability to undertake manual work. 
• A positive attitude, reliability and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
