Wanted entry-level AUTO AND MARINE ELECTRICIANS with an airconditioning background for Eagle Recruitment NZ in NORTHLAND

Eagle Recruitment NZ is seeking skilled and safety-conscious entry-level Auto and Marine Electricians with an Air Conditioning background, you will play a dual role: supporting our senior team in installing, diagnosing, and repairing electrical systems in a wide range of vehicles and vessels—from passenger cars and heavy trucks to recreational boats and commercial marine craft and servicing and degassing/re-gassing of HVAC systems. This role requires a high standard of safety compliance.

Responsibilities:
  • Technical Assistance & Learning
    • Assist with the installation of 12V and 24V DC systems in vehicles and vessels.
    • Learn to use diagnostic scan tools to identify faults in engine management, ABS, and SRS systems.
    • Practice wire stripping, crimping, and soldering to high marine standards (moisture and vibration resistance).
  • Installation and Upgrades
    • Automotive: Fit GPS navigation, reverse cameras, dual battery systems, and electric brake controllers.
    • Marine:
      • Assist in the setup of battery management systems, including solar charging and deep-cycle house banks for long-range cruising.
      • Perform basic inspections for galvanic corrosion and shore-power safety.
  • HVAC & Air Conditioning
    • Service, diagnose, and repair A/C systems in cars, trucks, and marine vessels.
    • Perform leak detection using electronic "sniffers" or UV dye.
    • Recover and charge refrigerants (R134a and R1234yf) safely.
    • Replace compressors, condensers, and evaporator cores in cramped vehicle dashboards or yacht engine rooms.
  • Workshop & Field Service
    • Maintain a clean and organised workspace.

    • Ensure all electrical work complies with AS/NZS 3000 (Wiring Rules) and AS/NZS 3004 (Electrical installations—Marinas and boats).

    • Follow the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 protocols.
    • Travel to local marinas or farms for mobile service calls.

    • Document all work accurately in job cards for compliance and billing.
Requirements and Skills:
  • A Level 4 New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) certificate in Automotive Electrical Engineering, or equivalent recognised overseas qualification, or at least three years of relevant work experience.

  • A current or previous holder of an Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) Limited Scope or Trainee Restricted Certificate (formerly Practising Licence) is a significant advantage, but not required.

  • Familiarity with the Maritime Operator Safety System (MOSS) and Maritime NZ rules for commercial vessels.

  • Proficiency with modern CAN bus systems and NMEA 2000 marine networks.

  • Ability to disassemble dashboards or navigate tight boat hulls without causing damage.

  • Understanding the impact of the New Zealand marine environment (salt spray, high UV) on electrical components.

  • Ability to explain technical faults to customers in plain English.

  • A clean NZ Class 1 licence or equivalent is essential; Class 2 (Heavy Trade) is a significant advantage.

  • Be willing to undergo random drug tests while employed.

  • Must be an NZ Citizen, NZ Resident, or eligible to work in NZ.

 

This is a full-time, permanent role, and the hourly pay rate ranges between NZ$28 and NZ$32, depending on experience and qualifications. The work hours are a minimum of 30 hours to a maximum of 70 hours per week, and they are to be worked between Monday and Friday, between 7 am and 5 pm. They may be required to work on weekends.
