The Opportunity

We are looking for Consents Planner - Senior Consents Planner to join our Consents team on a full time, fixed-term (18-month) basis in our busy Queenstown office. We welcome all skill levels, both with entry level experience and senior experience, with details covered below for what the team is after and attached in the position description.

The purpose of the role is to assist in the sustainable management of the Otago region through evaluating and advising upon consent applications made to the ORC under the Resource Management Act (RMA) and other relevant legislation and standards.

Depending on your experience, as a Consents Planner/Senior Consents Planner, you will be responsible for:

  • Advising on and evaluating environmental consent applications made to Otago Regional Council.
  • Adhering to statutory timeframes for consent applications.
  • Actively engaging with our stakeholders across Otago to ensure applicants are well-informed during the consenting process, and after for any required monitoring or follow-up.
  • Mentoring and supporting others in the team and contribute to projects working across the team and organisation.
  • Preparing reports and other documentation and presenting to committees and hearings as requested.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent level of learning.
  • An in-depth understanding of and experience working with the RMA
  • Excellent communication skills - able to explain complex information simply, and build credibility with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in a similar role in a local government or consulting environment
  • Confidence planning and prioritising to meet deadlines, combined with great attention to detail

Consents Planner annual salary per annum from $66,846 to $78,642

Senior Consents Planner annual salary per annum from $83,711 to $98,484
