Due to continued business growth and an increasing number of civil construction projects, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Civil Engineering Technician to join our Auckland-based team.

As a Civil Engineering Technician, you will provide technical support to our engineering and project teams across a range of civil construction projects, including earthworks, drainage, infrastructure, and land development works. The role involves preparing engineering drawings and technical documentation, assisting with engineering calculations, conducting site inspections, collecting and analysing project data, and supporting quality assurance activities to ensure civil works are delivered in accordance with engineering specifications, drawings, standards, and contractual requirements.

The Civil Engineering Technician works closely with engineers, contractors, surveyors, and construction teams to support the successful delivery of infrastructure, earthworks, drainage, roading, and land development projects. This is a permanent full-time position; you will be required to work at least 40 hours per week between Monday and Friday.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering Drawings and Technical Documentation

  • Prepare and update civil engineering drawings, plans, sketches, and technical documentation using CAD and relevant engineering software.
  • Assist civil engineers in the preparation of design drawings, construction details, and project documentation.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, survey information, and construction plans.
  • Maintain accurate technical records, drawings, revisions, and project documentation.

2. Engineering Data Collection and Analysis

  • Collect and analyse technical information required for civil engineering projects.
  • Assist with reviewing survey data, site measurements, construction information, and engineering records.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations and prepare technical reports, schedules, and documentation.
  • Assist engineers in evaluating design solutions and identifying potential technical issues.

3. Site Inspection and Construction Support

  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor civil construction activities and verify compliance with approved engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Record site observations, measurements, progress information, and construction data.
  • Assist in monitoring earthworks, drainage, pavement, utilities, and other civil infrastructure works.
  • Identify technical issues during construction and report findings to engineers and project managers.

4. Materials Testing and Quality Assurance Support

  • Assist with construction material testing and quality assurance activities.
  • Collect information relating to soil, aggregate, concrete, and other construction materials where required.
  • Review test results and maintain quality documentation.
  • Support compliance with project specifications, engineering standards, and client requirements.

5. Quantity and Cost Support

  • Assist with preparation of material quantities, schedules, and basic cost information.
  • Undertake quantity measurements from drawings and site information.
  • Support engineers and project managers with tender documentation and project reporting.

6. Project Coordination and Technical Communication

  • Liaise with civil engineers, contractors, subcontractors, surveyors, and suppliers regarding technical matters.
  • Provide technical support throughout project delivery.
  • Attend project meetings and provide engineering documentation updates where required.
  • Assist in resolving technical queries arising during construction.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline (at least a Diploma).
  • Previous experience in civil engineering, civil construction, or infrastructure projects.
  • Understanding of civil construction methods, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience using CAD software and preparing technical drawings.
  • Ability to interpret engineering plans and construction documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a project team.
