You will be responsible for your section and manage the work along with the staff. You will ensure the quality of the food prepared is of high standard, maintaining consistency and done in a timely fashion. You will have excellent food preparation skills. Hold good knowledge of finger food as well. You should be able to multitask and remain calm in stressful situations.
Tasks in the position
· Plan and organise the preparation and cooking of food in a busy bar and restaurant kitchen
· Undertake menu planning, develop new food items, manage food costing, and apply portion control
· Prepare, season, and cook a variety of meals including bar food and restaurant dishes
· Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to menu standards, recipes, portion sizes, and quality requirements
· Monitor the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure consistency and customer satisfaction
· Ensure meals are prepared and served within required timeframes during busy service periods
· Supervise kitchen operations and coordinate food preparation activities during service
· Monitor stock levels, order supplies, and check the quality of food deliveries
· Ensure proper handling, storage, refrigeration, and rotation of food stock
· Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, hygiene standards, and the Food Control Plan
· Follow health and safety procedures, including food safety and alcohol service regulations
· Follow all workplace health and hygiene requirements at all times
· Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, benches, storage areas, bar area, dining space, and service counters
· Train and support junior kitchen staff and demonstrate food preparation procedures when required
· Prepare meals to accommodate customers’ dietary requirements and special requests
· Resolve customer food-related complaints professionally and adjust recipes where required to meet feedback or dietary needs
· Assist in managing busy service periods as front-of-house staff, ensuring timely and efficient customer service
· Serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages in compliance with New Zealand licensing laws when required. Willing to secure Manager’s Certificate from the council.
· Check customer identification to ensure compliance with legal drinking age requirements
· Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of bar area, dining space, and service counters
· Monitor customer behaviour and follow host responsibility practices to ensure safe alcohol service
· Support staff in maintaining council documentation, including cooking procedures and temperature recording logs
· Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, presentation, and workplace cleanliness
· Carry out general kitchen cleaning and dishwashing duties when required
· Report maintenance or equipment issues promptly to management
· Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the Restaurant Manager or Director

· Hours of work is minimum of 30 hours per week or more when required
· Hourly wage rate $27 to $30

Requirements of the position
· 2 to 3 years of cookery experience in any position or any relevant qualification certificate
· Be experienced in taking full control of kitchen
· Be flexible to work daily split shifts (Lunch & dinner) and weekends were required.
· Willing to work on the weekends and public holidays
· Willing to help the front of house as required
· Interested applicants will be provided with training.
