Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua (Te Rūnanga) is the central representative body for ngā uri o Ngāti Whātua. Guided by 11 elected kaitiaki from five takiwā, our kaupapa is to represent a unified voice and presence for our people; support marae and hapū to thrive across social, cultural, environmental, and economic realms; and uphold and grow the unique identity and cultural excellence of Ngāti Whātua.

With oversight of marae from Tāmaki to Maunganui in the west and Tāmaki to Manaia in the east, Te Rūnanga strengthens connections to tūrangawaewae and collaborates with uri, hapū, and government agencies to ensure the well-being of our people.

This is an opportunity to lead Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Whātua at a pivotal time in the journey of our Iwi. The Chief Executive, will work closely with the Board to implement our strategic plan, empower kaimahi, and deliver on the aspirations of uri. This position will be instrumental in completing the Wai 303 settlement and navigating the post-settlement environment, ensuring the well-being, growth, and cultural strength of Ngāti Whātua.

You are a relational leader, grounded in Ngāti Whātua values, with a deep heart for the people. You bring your strength in te reo me ōna tikanga, and bring a collaborative, inclusive style. You have a proven track record in leading complex organisations, ideally within an iwi or kaupapa Māori context, and are experienced in working with Boards to deliver strategic outcomes. - Te māramatanga hōhonu ki te hononga ki waenga o ngā iwi me te Karauna, whakataunga take Tiriti, me te horopaki motuhake o Ngāti Whātua.
- Te aronga rautaki me ōna hono ki ngā wawata me te tuku i ngā hua e tāea te tatau.
- Mahi ngātahi, tuku kōrero kia hāngai kia mārama me te kawe ki ngā hononga ki ngā tūranga mahi, ngā uri ngā marae, ngā hapū me ngā hunga whai pānga kei waho kē atu.
- He piringa pūmau ki ngā taumata o te ahurea, pikinga o te reo, me te anga mua o te tuakiri o Ngāti Whātua.

- Purposeful, intergenerational leadership anchored in Ngāti Whātua culture and values.
- Proven ability to lead complex settlement processes and navigate post-settlement environments.
- A deep understanding of Iwi-Crown dynamics, Treaty settlements, and the unique context of Ngāti Whātua.
- Strategic thinking with the ability to operationalise vision and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Collaborative, effective communication and relationship management across kaimahi, uri, marae, hapū, and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to cultural excellence, reo revitalisation, and the advancement of Ngāti Whātua identity.
- Experience in organisational development, capability building, succession planning, and developing strong, thriving teams.
- Financial literacy and sound judgement in resource management and investment.
- Visibility, approachability, and passion for supporting Ngāti Whātua whānui, especially on marae and in local communities.
