\n About the Role\n
As a Consultant Inpatient Psychiatrist, you will play a key role in the assessment and management of patients, developing and implementing comprehensive treatment programmes that address psychological, social, and medication needs. You will also ensure effective follow‑up and continuity of care within a regional secondary care service. The position offers a varied and rewarding caseload across a broad range of acute mental health conditions, with opportunities to contribute to service development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and clinical education. This is a permanent full‑time 1.0 FTE (80 hours a fortnight) role that includes participation in on‑call and after‑hours rosters.
About the Team / Service / Location\nThe Nelson Mental Health & Addictions Service provides a comprehensive range of services across inpatient, community, and specialist care. The inpatient unit offers acute care for adults experiencing significant mental health challenges, with a focus on recovery‑oriented and trauma‑informed practice. There are two full‑time consultant psychiatrists, each leading multi‑disciplinary teams providing acute inpatient support. The 25‑bed purpose‑built acute inpatient unit in Nelson serves the adult inpatient needs of the district and is well‑integrated with community teams and primary care providers, ensuring continuity of care and strong regional support networks.
