Senior Parks & Reserves Delivery Officer
Te Kaunihera aa Takiwaa o Waikato (Waikato District Council) serves the Waikato District which covers more than 400,000 hectares (418.893ha). The district is rich in natural resources, wilderness reserves, natural resources, native bush reserves, lush farmland and stunning west coast beaches.

About this role:
We’re looking for an experienced and people-focused Senior Parks & Reserves Delivery Officer to lead the coordination and delivery of maintenance, inspections, and reactive works across our parks, reserves, and open spaces.
This is a hands-on leadership role where proven practical experience is essential. You’ll oversee field delivery, contractor performance, support asset inspections, and provide guidance to others in the team. You’ll play a key role in ensuring our playgrounds and parks are safe, accessible, and valued spaces that support whanaungatanga and community wellbeing.
You’ll act as a trusted advisor to leaders and stakeholders, ensuring delivery is efficient, transparent, and aligned with Council expectations and community needs.
What I do?
- Coordinate the daily work programme for the internal playground and amenity delivery officers.
- Lead and undertake routine inspections, make-safe responses and minor repair works.
- Support planning, prioritisation and escalation of playground and amenity related defects and safety matters.
- Help ensure inspection records, defect evidence and work completion records are accurate.
- Provide field leadership, coaching and technical support to delivery officers.
- Liaise with the Sportsgrounds and Amenities Contract Manager on priorities, resourcing, safetyissues and unresolved defects.
- Plan, manage and implement delivery in undertaking procurement, and management of minor works contracts for asset repairs and maintenance.
- Manage reactive call outs and be the key decision maker around playground and amenity assets.
- Ensure that all new assets are vested to national standards, regulations, and Council policy.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stake holders to build and maintain professional external relationships with iwi, contractors, community groups, elected members, sports clubs etc.
- Manage budgets in designated areas including operational expenditure and forecasting.
- Undertake asset assessments and implementation of good practice to ensure asset compliance to national standards.
What I bring?
- Tertiary qualification in either construction, playground management/inspection, or recreation management or similar.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in coordinating minor contracts and contractor management.
- Experience in leading small teams to ensure operational delivery.
- Intermediate level of Outlook, Excel and Microsoft Word.
- Highly developed interpersonal and relationship skills.
- Is adaptable, has innovation, can set priorities and work well under pressure.
- Can exercise judgement in problem solving.
- Proactive and responsive Customer Service attitude with a focus on internal and external customer needs.
- Minor project and scoping of works experience is desired.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety requirements in field-based environments.
- Ability to analyse information and provide practical, balanced advice.
- Excellent communication skills grounded in manaakitanga and professionalism.

Additional Information
Hours of work: 40 hours per week
