About the Opportunity

Our client, a leading New Zealand financial services organisation, is seeking a proactive and commercially savvy Legal Counsel to join their busy in-house legal team. This is an exciting chance for a legal professional who wants to blend strong legal knowledge with strategic business insight, contributing directly to the organisation's growth and success.

In this role, you'll partner closely with teams across the organisation to deliver clear, practical legal advice that supports innovation, marketing, and operational goals. You'll play a key part in shaping business decisions with confidence, while helping maintain privacy compliance and occasionally assisting with board governance matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Providing legal guidance on diverse commercial matters, focused on enabling business outcomes.
• Supporting strategic initiatives and identifying opportunities to improve legal and operational processes.
• Assisting with organisational privacy compliance and risk mitigation efforts.
• Supporting governance and board-related activities as required.
• Building strong internal relationships to become a trusted legal advisor.
• Promoting a risk-aware, business-aligned approach to decision-making.

About You

• Minimum of 4 years PQE
• Demonstrated commercial acumen with a proven ability to align legal advice with business priorities.
• Experience in privacy, contracts, or financial services sectors is highly desirable.
• Excellent communicator with strong relationship-building skills.
• A self-motivated, solution-oriented individual who thrives in collaborative settings.
