About Your Role

As R&D Manager at Southern Spars, you'll be at the helm of a world-leading team, driving breakthrough solutions that power everything from America's Cup yachts to superyachts and beyond. Responsibilities
Provide leadership for the R&D departments to be organised and innovative.Monitor and manage team members day to day operations.
Support the team members to ensure they have everything they need to conduct their jobs.
Work closely with the Head of Design and other Department Managers to understand expectations of the R&D Team and ensure they are met.
Develop and improve our processes through innovative engineering solutions resulting in a measurable improvement to the overall business Prime Margin.
Drive initiatives to improve the end-to-end rig package production process via digital or physical automation.
Develop/investigate new technologies that will make the production process more effective or improve the final product or reduce cost.
Work with procurement to ensure the best outcome for parts e.g. standardisation, efficiencies in machining parts via design.
Drive a culture of all staff generating innovate ideas. Improve communication, engagement and sharing of innovations within the business and group.
Work with Planning, Operations, Design and Project Managers on R&D Project resource planning.
Manage and control approved projects within approved budgets, plans and performance criteria.
Ensure R&D tax credit application is submitted and approved each year. Tax credit is to grow YoY to enable further investment in R&D initiatives.
Develop the R&D teams skills and attributes and cross-train where possible along with succession planning. Assist with input into R&D team members Annual Performance Reviews.

What you'll bring
Essential:
Appropriate University or Tertiary Engineering qualification
Worked successfully in a Design Team environment
Minimum of 10 years' experience in a manufacturing environment
Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading a team
Strong leadership in motivating and developing design staff, proven problem-solving ability, a willingness to embrace new ways of working, a strong customer focus (internal and external), and a drive for personal growth.

Project scheduling experience
Intermediate user of Microsoft Excel
