Senior Project Manager - Commercial Construction

About the Role

My client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Manager to join the team in Wellington to help lead the successful delivery of some upcoming commercial construction projects across the Wellington region.

This is a key leadership position, responsible for driving complex projects from planning through to completion—on time, within scope, and within budget. You will play a pivotal role in shaping project strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining stakeholder relationships, and proactively managing risks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of project execution—from initiation to handover—ensuring alignment with time, cost, and quality expectations.

  • Proactively identify and implement changes to project plans to ensure timely delivery.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules, highlighting key milestones and critical deliverables.

  • Support project kick-offs through detailed planning and stakeholder engagement.

  • Coordinate closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants to maintain clear and consistent communication.

  • Ensure all work complies with relevant building codes, safety regulations, and quality standards, including conducting regular site inspections.

  • Identify potential project risks early and implement effective mitigation strategies to ensure smooth delivery

About You

  • Proven experience managing large-scale commercial construction projects, ideally $20M+ in value.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and align multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Expert in scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera) and familiar with NZ construction regulations.

  • A strategic thinker with a hands-on approach and sharp problem-solving abilities.

  • Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred.

Salary for this role is negotiable depending on experience. I have discussed $150,000 to $180,000 + Vehicle with my client.
