OUR LOCATION
Waiheke Island is a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. We enjoy vineyards, olive groves, and sea views overlooking the stunning Hauraki Gulf. Waiheke is famous for its wonderful beaches, fishing, bush walks, vineyards, and restaurants.
The Service Manager leads our front-of-house team and ensures exceptional guest experiences across all areas of Cable Bay. This hands-on role combines daily operations with leadership — running shifts, training staff, managing rosters, supporting special functions, and helping drive the businesss success. Its a full-time role. Hours : Minimum 40 - Maximum 55 per week.
Key ResponsibilitiesService Leadership & TrainingPlan menus in consultation with Chefs.
Lead development and implementation of service standards across all FOH outlets.
Design, deliver, and record staff training and onboarding programmes.
Mentor and coach team members to maintain a positive service culture.
Run FOH operations during service, ensuring smooth delivery and high guest satisfaction.
Conduct team briefings, allocate sections, and manage guest engagement.
Oversee special functions, ensuring seamless delivery of food, wine, and service.
Ensure dining facilities comply with health regulations and remain clean, functional, and of suitable appearance.
Select, train, and supervise FOH and kitchen staff.
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
Support rostering and seasonal staffing plans with Restaurant Managers.
Assist in arranging the purchasing and pricing of goods within the budget.
Maintain records of stock levels and financial transactions.
Complete shift reports, cash-ups, and compliance documentation.
Support cost control and revenue goals.
Confer with customers to assess satisfaction with meals and service.
Handle guest complaints calmly and professionally.
Take reservations, greet guests, and assist with orders when required.
Proven hospitality leadership experience for two years, ideally in a restaurant, winery, or events setting.
Strong food, wine, and service knowledge.
Experience in training, mentoring, or coaching hospitality staff.
Proficient with POS (MenuMate), booking systems (ResDiary), and cash handling.
Holder of Managers Certificate and LCQ (or willing to obtain).
Professional, approachable, and confident team leader.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Calm under pressure with a high attention to detail.
Passionate about hospitality and delivering outstanding guest experiences.
This role is full-time and based on Waiheke Island. Staff transport from Auckland CBD is available via ferry. The Service Manager is expected to uphold company policies and lead by example in delivering Cable Bays values and standards. There is an option for staff accommodation on the island.
