Based in Ellerslie, Auckland Police Employee Permanent, Full Time Nationally Advertised JR 5185277 Mō te tūnga | About the role The New Zealand Police is seeking to appoint a Border Investigator within the National Organised Crime Group (NOCG) based at Ellerslie in Auckland. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting NOCG and New Zealand Customs Service (NZCS) with identifying, evaluating and assessing firearms, firearms parts and related material to identify illegal firearms imports and trends; provide evidence to identify firearms, firearms parts and related material for investigations and criminal proceedings. Evaluating, repairing and modifying Police service firearms, Tasers, and accessories as well as providing technical advice to various Arms Officers, Firearms Licensing and other Police Staff. Key Accountabilities: Work in partnership with New Zealand Customs Service, Te Tari Pūreke (Firearms Safety Authority), the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR) and aligned agencies. Conduct day to day examinations of firearms, firearms parts, ammunition and other firearms related ancillary items at the New Zealand border and provide expert knowledge to ensure legislative requirements and permit conditions as applicable are adhered to. Support the gathering of intelligence on firearms, firearm parts, accessories and ammunition with respect to importation, unlawful possession or use in conjunction with criminal offending; to assist with the build-up of detailed knowledge on emerging trends, threats and security risks, whilst informing compliance and safety initiatives. Conduct examination of firearms, firearms parts, ammunition and firearms related material and documentation for the NOCG Firearms Investigation Team (FIT); provide expert knowledge to support investigations and diversion enquiries.
