The Opportunity

Our Compliance team at the Otago Regional Council is looking for a Team Leader Compliance to join the team on full-time permanent basis (37.5 hrs per week) in our busy Dunedin office.

The purpose of this role is providing day to day operational leadership, direction and oversight to the compliance team members and provide subject level expertise on environmental compliance monitoring activities, stepping in to assist where need for complex compliance matters.

As an, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing leadership to the compliance team, to ensure their activities are aligned with the strategic goals of ORC
  • Coaching, mentoring and supporting staff to achieve outcomes and grow and develop
  • Providing guidance and oversight to the consent monitoring process
  • Ensuring appropriate audit processes are carried out on ORC resource consents to ensure compliance with consent conditions
  • Participating in the 24/7 pollution and complaint roster
  • Developing and maintaining productive and professional relationships with consent holders and land owners

About You

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Environmental Management, Science or Public Policy
  • A Full NZ Drivers License
  • 10+ years regulatory compliance experience working, ideally within local or central government
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in people leadership and management
  • Experience in providing high level expert advice on a range of complex and sensitive issues, particularly in relation to compliance monitoring
  • Ability to interpret and operationalise legislation, plans and policy
