We are looking for a Kaitohutohu | Advisor to join our Ikaroa-R whiti Rohe for a fixed term of up to 7 months while one of our kaimahi is on parental leave.

Te whai w hitanga | The opportunity

The Kaitohutohu works in partnership with agencies, organisations and providers to assist them to monitor and improve their services for M ori. Mahi includes

  • Working with stakeholders across iwi, public and private sectors.
  • Contributing to regional work programmes including leading and providing policy advice across a range of project related issues significant to M ori and Government.
  • Assisting in the development and management of investment proposals including those that help strengthen M ori businesses.
  • Providing advice to, and working alongside M ori enterprise in the region.
  • Acting as a conduit for information both into and out of M ori communities.

The likely appointment range is $76,022 to $84,468 per annum, based on skills and experience. The full grade for this role is $76,022 to $101,362 per annum with a mid-point of $84,468 This will be prorated for the period of the fixed term.

Adaptable and resilient, Kaitohutohu take an engagement and relationship driven approach to their mahi over a purely transactional one.

We are looking for candidates who have

  • A love of korero and w nanga. Including sharing ideas with colleagues, agencies, businesses and forming strong relationships.
  • Experience working alongside and advising M ori business/enterprise and working in the Regional Economic Development space. Having established networks in the region (Or the ability to build these quickly) does help.
  • Strong critical reasoning, numerical, communication and initiative skills.
  • Good technology skills, including using spreadsheets and databases.
  • An understanding of tikanga and are comfortable working in a kaupapa M ori environment - a degree of fluency in te reo M ori is beneficial to the mahi.
  • A clean, full motor vehicle drivers licence.
