Location: Te Tari Matua, Poneke - National Office, Wellington

Te Puni Kokiri is the governments principal policy advisor on M ori wellbeing and development. We achieve strategic influence with a focus on providing high quality policy advice and holding other agencies to account for delivering public services to, for, and with M ori. This includes our mandate to promote M ori achievement in education, training, health and economic resource development along with performing our monitoring and mentoring roles.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Advisor who is looking to gain meaningful experience in our Strategy Team!

The Strategy team is responsible for supporting the strategic direction setting for Te Puni Kokiri. This team provides the Executive Leadership Team with relevant insights and context to inform strategic decision making and facilitates strategy development processes to make those decisions.

An internal facing position, the Senior Advisor, Strategy plays an important role of supporting the Manager Strategy to develop the strategic direction and support its implementation to help Te Puni Kokiri achieve its purpose and priorities.

The role reports to the manager of the Strategy Team and is based in National office in Wellington, You will:

  • Support the development and implementation of Te Puni Kokiris Strategic documents and performance mechanisms such as the Strategic Intentions, Long Term Insights Briefing including its preparation, peer review and publishing.
  • Engage with managers and teams across Te Puni Kokiri to support the development and delivery of our key strategic documents.
  • Assist with the development of the Estimates of Appropriations and output class information ensuring that accountability (including legislative and Treasury) timelines are adhered to
  • Providing backup on the oversight of the Estimates and any financial reviews, including co-ordinating the Te Puni Kokiri responses to written questions to the Finance and Expenditure Committee, and the M ori Affairs Select Committee

The appointment range for this role is between $104k - $115k per annum and the salary will be determined based on the successful candidates skills and experience.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Exceptional relationship management skills. Can quickly build in-person rapport with a range of stakeholders.
  • Successful experience operating within a Public Service environment with knowledge and understanding the Machinery of Government, Policy process.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft packages especially outlook, word, excel and PowerPoint.
  • Presentation skills and the personal credibility to be able to speak with authority on behalf Te Puni Kokiri.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of te ao M ori and are comfortable working in an environment where tikanga is observed.
  • A high level of commitment to detail, quality, thoroughness and delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience in a complex and politically sensitive environment.
