About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

This is a permanent, full-time Senior Advisor position.

As a Senior Advisor, Monitoring and Appointments, you will work closely with key external and internal stakeholders to build strong and trusting working relationships at senior levels across our workstreams. You will also provide a range of high quality written and oral advice to Ministers and key stakeholders, and support advisors within the team across our workstreams.

As part of our monitoring workstream, you will develop advice on entity performance for responsible Ministers including leading conversations with key stakeholders, and utilising a range of sources to identify risks and interdependencies. You will also provide advice and feedback on accountability and strategy documents, and be a ‘critical friend on priority work streams.

As part of our appointments workstream, you will work closely with board chairs and stakeholders as part of developing advice for responsible Ministers on board appointments. This will include working with Ministers offices to identify selection priorities, assess candidates, and support Cabinet consideration of proposed appointments. You will also provide advice on fees including the application of the Cabinet Fees Framework.

As part of our advisory workstream, you will provide specialist support to policy teams on the application of the Crown Entities Act 2004, Ministerial levers, categorisation of entities and Cabinet processes.

There are opportunities to focus on one or more of our workstreams and areas of work depending on your preference and experience.

Salary range: $99,496 - $120,690 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

To be successful in this role, you must be able to analyse and interpret data to draw meaningful insights and produce high quality advice on entity performance and appointments.

You will also need the ability to lead constructive conversations with a range of stakeholders and be confident to challenge and test perspectives.

You will also have the ability to:

  • problem-solve complex issues and identify risks,
  • have a strong understanding of machinery of government and ability to interpret legislation,
  • analyse and interpret data to draw meaningful insights and produce high quality advice on entity performance,
  • have a proven ability to work under pressure and respond to urgent requests,
  • mentor staff,
  • lead and prioritise tasks across the team,
  • apply analytical frameworks and knowledge gained during a relevant tertiary qualification or at least 5-years work experience in a relevant role,
  • the ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
  • Preferably applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
