We have an opportunity for a Platform Lead in the Data and Analytics Platforms domain within BNZ Technology. As a Platform Lead within BNZ Technology, you will balance leading and developing your team while maximising the value delivered by the platform team, ensuring alignment with customer needs, stakeholder expectations, and BNZs strategic goals. Serving as the teams advocate and main link with stakeholders, youll drive the development of robust, scalable platform solutions that deliver sustainable business outcomes. Platform Leads directly manage their team, working on specialist technical systems/platforms, and they often share in their teams technical skillset or have similar experience. You may see another role at BNZ called ‘Platform Owner which work within business-aligned platform teams to develop and deliver roadmaps, working collaboratively with Platform Managers as well as Engineering Leads who take the primary responsibility for the goals and development of the technical members of these teams. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role What are some day-to-day tasks the successful candidate in this role will complete?- Platform Roadmaps: Define and communicate a clear platform vision and strategy aligned with BNZs strategic goals, driving the platform team towards operational excellence.
- People Leadership: Lead your team of engineers, analysts, and technical specialists through all employee lifecycle stages—attraction, recruitment, onboarding, development, retention, and offboarding. Foster a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability to drive performance and alignment with business goals.
- Data-Driven Decisions: Apply data analysis and metrics to support decisions that enhance platform reliability, performance, and usability.
- Prioritisation: Prioritise platform enhancements based on customer value, business impact, and resources, ensuring application management aligns with the Critical Hygiene Framework
- Risk Management: Mitigate technology risks to ensure security, compliance, and resilience. Resolve incidents to meet recovery SLAs, conduct post-incident reviews, and prioritize actions to improve availability
- Product Ownership Experience: Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role, ideally in platform products. Practical knowledge of Snowflake or other modern cloud data platforms.
- People Leadership: Experience in leading and developing technical teams through all stages of the employee lifecycle. Conducting peer reviews and technical walkthroughs with engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and helping grow the teams capability and technical excellence.
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of software development processes and platform architecture. Strong hands-on expertise in Java, .NET, R and experience working with or supporting data analytics workloads. A strong focus on automation, scalability, and reliability.
- Backlog Management: Expertise in creating, prioritising, and managing a product backlog effectively.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to use data and KPIs to inform prioritisation and product decisions.
- Agile Methodologies: Proficient in agile practices, including sprint planning and user story development. Experience working in an Agile and DevOps environment. Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code in cloud environments (preferably AWS or Azure).
- Stakeholder Management: Skilled at aligning with and managing expectations of key stakeholders. Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks relevant to New Zealand banking, especially BS11 and IFRS 9.
