The AUT Pacific Health Research Centre conducts high quality research that advances the understanding of public health issues that can improve access to healthcare and promote positive health and wellbeing among Pacific peoples in New Zealand. Key to the Centres work is a programme of research called the Pacific Islands Families (PIF) Study, a longitudinal study tracking the health and development of a birth cohort of 1,398 Pacific children born in the year 2000 in South Auckland.
The PIF Study seeks to appoint 6 field interviewers to conduct surveys/interviews in the field with PIF Study participants as part of the 25-year data collection wave of the PIF Study, funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand. This is a research assistant position for a fixed term of 12 months in a full-time (1.0 FTE) capacity.
The role will involve organising appointments with PIF Study participants, following up with participants who have been lost to follow-up, obtaining informed consent, assisting participants with completing surveys, and conducting physical measurements to assess participants nutritional and metabolic wellbeing in accordance with research protocols and ethical guidelines. Responsibilities also include directing participants in distress or danger to appropriate professional help, updating contact details, documenting data collection process, performing data entry as needed, and assisting with other research activities as required by the Principal Investigator and research team.
The appointee will have experience in surveying/ interviewing for research purposes, the ability to work flexible hours, strong and established links with Pacific communities and familiarity with Pacific cultures, and be a self-motivated, organised, meticulous, trustworthy, and reliable team player.
