At the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) | Te P Whakamarumaru, we are dedicated to our mission of keeping Aotearoa New Zealand and our people safe and secure. Our Operational Security Unit Manager could be just what you are looking for!

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced intelligence professional to lead our Operational Security Unit to ensure it is able to effectively deliver the New Zealand Intelligence Community (NZIC) protective security and intelligence objectives.

This is a critical role responsible for:

  • Leading, establishing and implementing strategies to deliver operational security advice and services across the NZIC
  • Ensuring team activities are prioritised and managed to best effect
  • Building strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Leading and supporting the operational security capability build across NZIC
  • Ensuring security is considered at a system level across all areas of NZIC activity to ensure we protect our ability to operate safely and effectively

Who were looking for

Significant, recent operational experience in an intelligence agency is essential for this role.

You will have proven leadership ability including experience in leading and maintaining highly performing teams and delivering results through others. You will enjoy working under pressure and dealing with the unexpected.

You will also ideally bring:

  • Proven understanding of and experience in assessing and managing complex operational and organisational risks
  • Deep understanding of intelligence operations and how they contribute to national security outcomes
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning and stakeholder management
  • Skills in building and maintaining positive and productive working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Experience in responding to incidents - security or general

Before you apply

Working within our unique environment means we have to ensure youre eligible for employment.

You must:

  • Have been a New Zealand Citizen for at least 10 years

OR

Hold a current NZ Residency Class Visa and ideally have been a citizen of the UK, USA, Canada or Australia for at least 10 years

  • Be eligible to obtain a Top Secret Special (TSS) security clearance
    • Ordinarily, this means youll have a 15 year checkable background in countries NZSIS Vetting can make meaningful and reliable checks.
