Whaikaha became a standalone ministry on 01 December 2024, and this is an exciting time to join an organisation as it works through this transition.

Mo tenei turanga mahi | About the Role:

We are looking for a talented and driven Data Analyst to join our Data and Insights team for a fixed-term role until 24 December 2025.

This exciting opportunity will see you contributing to the development of critical data and insights that will help shape the future of disability strategy in Aotearoa.

In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing, analysing, and presenting quantitative disability data from a range of external sources to build the evidence base around disability.

Your work will support better, evidence-informed decision-making, contributing to key indicators and data dashboards that monitor progress across the Disability Strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Source, analyse, and transform data using tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Excel, SQL, and R.
  • Develop indicators and data dashboards to identify gaps and monitor progress across key focus areas.
  • Use data and evidence from various sources, including Stats NZs Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI), to create insightful reports for diverse audiences.
  • Present data in a clear, accessible, and concise format for non-technical users.
  • Contribute to improving data, systems and reporting processes.
  • Work proactively with stakeholders to source and define data that meets user needs.

Ko wai koe | About You:

  • Experience in quantitative data analysis and data visualisation.
  • Strong technical skills in tools such as Microsoft Power BI, R, SQL, and Excel.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to derive meaningful insights from complex data.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver high-quality insights for diverse audiences, presenting complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Experience in building dashboards and data products using business intelligence tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Excellent relationship management and communication skills.
  • A solid understanding of data, research methodologies, and statistical analysis.
  • Previous experience with IDI and/or quantitative disability data is desirable but not essential.

To undertake this role successfully, you will either be a disabled person or be able to establish credibility and trust with the disability community.

You will have empathy and an understanding of the unique and diverse experiences of disabled people.
