About the Role

An opportunity has become available for an Estimator in Christchurch NZ for Downers Energy & Utilities business unit reporting to the Construction Manager. The Estimator is responsible for managing the cost estimation of construction projects involving the renewals and upgrade of water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure as part of the Department of Corrections Water Infrastructure Project. The ideal candidate will envision themselves attending to duties such as:

• Provide accurate and timely pricing information from detailed design drawings and reports
• Ensure tender price information is easily converted within project budgets
• Comply with tendering and associated reporting procedures to ensure a consistent approach across all business operations
• Liaise with internal stakeholders and subcontractors
• Assist with pre-letting negotiations and respond to clarification requests
• Co-ordinate peer, commercial, risk and legal reviews as appropriate. Arrange final review and obtain approval to submit tender.

About You

• Substantial experience in Construction, Civils and water is advantageous
• Exposure to QS is desirable
• A proven track record of building and nurturing strong working relationships with clients and sub-contractors
• Capable of producing first principal estimates (bottom-up estimates) and have a good understand of estimate norms and benchmarking
• Proficiency in multi-discipline estimating and a strong command of estimating software, with a preference for expertise in Candy, as well as proficiency in Microsoft programs
• Provide sound, qualified decision-making to the estimating process, following process and protocols.
