Chassis Aligner
- Job Title and location: Chassis Aligner, Christchurch
- Position: You will use appropriate mechanical & hydraulic equipment to straighten & align chassis, body frames & other major components
- Minimum and maximum rate of pay: $38 - $47/hour
- Permanent full-time, 40 hours per week
- Minimum skills, experience and qualifications for the job: 5 years relevant experience, or Trade Qualification
The key purpose of the role is to use appropriate mechanical & hydraulic equipment to straighten & align chassis, body frames & other major components. This can involve repair of damage to metal, steel and aluminium on heavy vehicles. Duties involve removing damaged parts, use of cut, welding, and heat induction equipment to affect quality repairs. It may also be necessary to be competent in panel beater repair methods - grind, filling and sand repaired surfaces using power and hand tools.
Role specific duties:- Chassis repairs on various vehicle makes and models
- Provide specialist repair services to the heavy transport industry;
- Shape and bend metal sections using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering;
- Select, clean and prepare metal stock;
- Clean and smooth welds by filling, chiseling and grinding;
- Align parts to be joined using measuring instruments;
- Cut marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machinery;
- Join metal sections using various welding techniques;
- Join metal sections by bolting and riveting;
- Finish products by cleaning, filling and treatment.
