We are now seeking a Communications and Engagement Lead to help bring our mahi to life—through powerful storytelling, thoughtful engagement, and clear, consistent messaging across all channels.
About the RoleThis role is both strategic and hands-on. As a national Communications and Engagement Lead, youll be responsible for shaping how Hei Āhuru Mōwai connects with whānau, communities, and partners through digital platforms, media, events, and more.Youll guide our voice, grow our reach, and bring our kaupapa to wider audiences. Youll also play a central role in delivering W.I.C.C 2026 - the World Indigenous Cancer Conference—an international gathering of Indigenous health leaders, researchers, and advocates held in Rotorua in April 2026.As Chair of the W.I.C.C Communications, Marketing and Branding Committee, youll help lead the way in telling the story of this global event with integrity, warmth, and impact.
Your Key Responsibilities• Implement and lead communications and engagement strategies for Hei Āhuru Mōwai and W.I.C.C 2026.• Oversee and implement content creation across social media, website, reports, and print media.• Provide strategic advice to our leadership team on communication opportunities and risks.• Manage all branding and media relationships, including press releases, campaigns, and presentations.• Support key projects, events and kaupapa, including hui, wānanga, and community-led programmes• Lead and support a small communications team and contribute as a trusted project lead
What Youll Bring• Experience: A qualification in communications, media, marketing, or equivalent professional experience with a minimum of 7 years experience in a related field.• Competency: Proven strong writing and editing skills—both creative and formal. Established experience with social media, digital tools, and web platforms.• Leadership: Ability to inspire and lead teams in communications projects and community engagement work.• Cultural Awareness: A sound understanding and application of Te Reo Māori me ona tikanga, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and Te Ao Māori. Confidence working across Māori communities and the health or not-for-profit sector.• Team player: Thriving in a collaborative and inclusive environment and a commitment to uplifting those around you.• Work ready: A full, current drivers licence and the ability to travel when required. Working rights in Aotearoa.
