Were seeking dedicated mentors to support talented individuals in the Family Home Reliever space. As a mentor, youll play a crucial role in helping mentees develop their skills, navigate challenges, and achieve their career aspirations.

Mo te tunga | About the role

Family Home Relievers continue to provide the routine and maintain a safe, caring, responsible and supportive family environment on a 24/7 basis when Family Home Caregivers are on their days off.

The role includes recreation activities, helping with homework and supervision etc. A designated social worker in the Family Homes team liaises with each home and provides the reliever with guidance. The social worker for tamariki provides the care plan therefore were looking for candidates who can also ensure that the activities are carried out and are consistent with the care plan and handover instructions.

An ideal candidate for this role is someone who has flexibility to be available 24 hours per day for a minimum of 4 days in a row and is committed to maintaining a safe, caring, responsible and supportive family environment in the family home.

Ng pumanawatanga ou | What you will bring

Key requirements of the role include:

  • Must hold a current full clean drivers licence
  • Ability to pass the background checks, which includes police and Oranga Tamariki vetting
  • Previous experience in social services work or working with children and young people
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga M ori, and Pacific peoples culture
  • Resilience to manage and support children and young people with varied needs
  • Behaviour management/conflict resolution skills
  • Be a positive role model
  • Have a calm and professional manner
  • Excellent, listening, oral and observations skills and ability to write handover notes
