Job Description About the Role: Illustrate active safety leadership by establishing and reinforcing strategic objectives from Global and Region by leading the tactical development and execution of HSE strategy in collaboration with regional and country leadership, supply chain directors and functional leads. Provide active safety leadership and coaching to safety professionals and operational leaders across multiple sites, ensuring effective compliance and the implementation of good practices and continuous improvement in safety performance Actively promote and influence integration of the Business Continuity Management agenda, Physical security strategy and Psychological wellbeing initiatives. Key Responsibilities may include:
  • Deliver strategic objectives by leading, mentoring, and developing a team of HSE specialists, ensuring consistent delivery of organizational safety and other related objectives and building a high-performing team.
  • Ensure compliance with safety management systems, environmental legislation, and risk management processes, serving as a key advisor on regulatory and industry standards.
  • Participate in working groups and steercos to represent the regional direction.
  • Oversee and manage all HSE reporting requirements, providing regular updates to regional leadership, Brambles, and external bodies.
  • Engage in risk assessments to identify safety, security, business interruption and environmental risks, developing and executing plans to mitigate those risks.
  • Act as the subject matter expert in human and organizational performance, promoting and leading training initiatives and facilitating learning teams at the site level.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to share and implement good practices, driving continuous improvement in HSE performance across operations and the broader business.
  • Coach and guide managers, leaders, and safety professionals on safety leadership, promoting a culture of safety at all levels of the business.
About the role Reporting to the AMETA Regional HSE Lead, this crucial position will see you developing and executing the CHEP New Zealand Safety Strategy. Based at our Wiri Head Office, your role will be to provide transformative safety leadership, coaching and support to the New Zealand Country Leadership Team, working closely with the HSE Development Manager, as well as functional and operational leaders across our 8 plants in New Zealand. You will lead the provision of specialist safety knowledge and technical expertise as well as industry best practice, to the implementation of practical health, safety and environmental compliance solutions and behavioural safety improvement programs. The key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Development and execution of the HSE strategic plan to ensure continuous improvement in HSE performance within New Zealand
  • Management of all monthly and other regular reporting requirements for New Zealand, including providing regular, minimum monthly updates to Country Leadership Team
  • Assessment of critical Safety and Environmental risks for the business and ensuring that plans are executed to manage those risks
  • Drive compliance to the B-Safe system and provide local ownership for the system.
  • In collaboration with functional leaders, identify and support best practice implementation.
  • Work with functional and site leaders to create a collaborative environment for Health, Safety and environmental continuous improvement, both within Operations and wider business units
  • Support the local gap audit program, collaborating with the Compliance Manager, with the intent to drive continuous improvement and learning at site levels. This local program will support the objectives of the global GAP auditing program
  • Support and provide specialist feedback on incident investigation - quality, action close out and incident learning.
  • Ensure compliance with CHEP and Brambles Zero Harm and New Zealand regulatory standards.
  • Provide the framework for Workers Compensation & Rehabilitation support as well as medical Fitness for Work advice as required.
  • Manage the Crisis Management Plan for the New Zealand Business and provide co-ordination for business continuity plans.
What will ensure your success:
  • Extensive leadership experience in workplace safety, within an industrial environment.
  • Experience with providing safety leadership to regional or executive leadership teams
  • Management experience in Operations / Supply Chain (preferable)
  • Experienced in practical safety solutions
  • Experience in working with New Zealand or equivalent HSE regulatory bodies
  • Experienced at driving collaborative change
  • Effective at stakeholder relationships
  • Purposeful team management experience
  • Working knowledge of Environmental compliance
  • Experience in step changing safety through engineering and other physical controls
  • Development of culture change through behavioural safety
