Au Mahi | What You Will Do
Te Kura Putaiao Koiora| School of Biological Sciences has an opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to participate in the research project "Phyto-Umwelt: Decoding the Multisensory World of Plants LT0004/2025-L (Human Frontier Science Program)", on plant ümvelt (sensing, detecting and decision-making) in multitrophic interactions. The fellowship is externally-funded for three years and will also involve extensive collaboration with project partners at Plant and Food Research Ltd.
You will be an integral part of the research team, focusing on undertaking research to examine how crop plants sense, detect and respond to arthropods at a distance. Specifically, you will work to develop and validate methods for assessing multimodal plant decision-making.
Mou | Who You Are
You will have completed a PhD in Sensory Ecology, or a closely related subject. You will have excellent communication skills and written English, the ability to work creatively and independently, and a strong research background.
We seek a highly motivated individual with:
- A strong research background in biotremology, arthropod behaviour, acoustics
- Expertise in laser vibrometry and modelling of complex systems
- Strong quantitative and data analysis skills
- A publication track record as well as experience with preparation and delivery of quality oral presentations to a wide range of audiences is essential
- A proven ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts (both orally and in writing) to a wide variety or groups including scientific and non-scientific audiences
- The ability to work creatively and independently.
