Mō te Tūranga | About the Role The Principal Engineer is a senior contributor, a technology expert able to add value from writing code, reviewing architecture to co-defining technology vision & strategy. There is no room for mediocrity in this role. Ko tō mahi | What youll do The Principal Engineer may be moved about to ensure teams and projects operate efficiently, consider the wider context of the technology industry and WNZL capability and succeed in our goals. A key element of this role is to constantly challenge the domain to be simpler, to be consistent and to become an excellent engineering group. They demonstrate through their daily work the “Ideal Engineer”, providing a measure for others to aspire to. Provide expert technical direction in terms of technologies and strategy, covering all system aspects within the sub-domain. Ensure high-standard application development focused on customer requirements and operational suitability. Drive improvements and upgrades within projects and BAU. Lead diagnosis and root-cause analysis of complex problems with strong troubleshooting skills. Understand the bigger picture and how technical functions fit into business processes. Outcomes/Deliverables
- Lead technical activities across the Software Development Lifecycle in Agile projects.
- Encourage professional development and innovative practices.
- Provide feedback to management on challenges and suggest improvements.
- Develop relationships with other Technical Leads for insights and experience sharing. Build strong relationships with Scrum Master, Business team, SMEs, and Craft Specialists. Understand the direction of the Center of Excellence.
- Lead by influence, example and logical argument. If that fails lead by instruction.
- Extensive Experience in Frontend Development: Typically, a minimum of 10 years in engineering roles, with a strong focus on frontend and backend technologies.
- Leadership and Mentorship Skills: Proven ability to lead and mentor, providing technical guidance and fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Continuous Learning and Adaptability: A mindset geared towards continuous learning and staying updated with the latest industry advancements and best practices.
- Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
