We are looking for a Staff Component Engineer to fill a position at our Research and Development Centre located in Wigram, Christchurch.

Role/Duties:

  • Leading the identification and evaluation of appropriate components for use in our product designs.
  • Providing component level expertise and consulting to Design Engineers.
  • Working with suppliers and product development engineers from a parts selection until its approval.
  • Working with design engineers, commodity specialists, and vendor personnel to resolve problems and issues.
  • Investigating alternate component technologies and suppliers to reduce cost while improving component quality and reliability.
  • Managing non-preferred parts out of circulation to prevent future design use.
  • Supporting change management with PCN/ECR/MCO/ECO reviews and approvals in our PLM System (Arena).

Qualification and Previous Experience:

  • Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (or equivalent)
  • 10+ years experience outside of university in Electrical Engineering.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must have experience in:

  • A wide range of Hardware components, for example: LDOs, Power Regulators, MOSFETs, IGBTs, Transistors, Diodes, Processors, Memory, Gate Drivers, Connectors, Relays, Op-amps, Microcontrollers, Transformers, Passives, and their various packaging technologies.
  • Reading and understanding Part Datasheets, Schematics and PCB designs.
  • Creating and maintaining parametric data to support component selection for design engineering
  • ESD, MSL, RoHS, and REACH electronic component compliance

Preferred Experience:

  • Supplier quality management and Change management - PCN and associated review, approval and change process
  • Product Lifecycle Management Tools & ECR (Engineering Change Request) / MCO (Material Change Order) processes.
  • BOM management/scrubbing
  • IC design, fabrication process and construction techniques, application and critical specifications that affect performance and reliability.
  • Sample management
  • An understanding of the commercial environment for the electronics industry
  • Exposure to compliance and regulatory standards

  • Detail Oriented / Accurate
  • Integrity - Ability to say “No” when making approvals
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams
