About the Role

The Sterile Services Unit is seeking a Co-ordinator to oversee our team of Technicians who clean, inspect, pack and sterilise complicated surgical instrument sets and implants ready for our surgical teams.

You will be required to work all shifts including weekends, nights, afternoon shift and public holidays.

You will need to have proven leadership skills and demonstrate your ability to oversee staff and organise daily workflow processes in a busy environment. You will be highly organised with the ability to meet deadlines and take ownership and accountability for tasks including risk, quality systems and staff rostering working under pressure with a focus on patient safety.

The Co-ordinator role will also be responsible for Loans, Education and Quality.

Therefore, it is essential that you have knowledge of computer systems, adapt to new software, "can-do" attitude and flexibility are also key attributes we seek.

The preferred candidate will have supervisory experience within a Sterilising Unit and be credentialed to work in all areas. However, individuals who have relevant experience in a hospital environment and knowledge of surgical instrumentation would also be considered.

The salary for this position will be based on experience and in line with the PSA Allied, Public Health, Scientific and Technical Collective Agreement. Additional benefits include kiwisaver contributions (if eligible), shift allowances, professional development and wellness support.

About the Team/Service

Waikato Hospitals Sterile Services Unit is at the heart of our hospital - our hands carry a commitment to excellence. We are responsible for providing sterile equipment to 23 operating theatres, as well as to district nurses and a range of external healthcare partners.

Our dedicated team of 65 staff members takes pride in the critical role we play in supporting patient care. While we take our responsibilities as Sterile Services Technicians seriously, we also value a positive, team-oriented environment where humour and camaraderie are part of our day.

Our work involves the decontamination and disinfection of surgical instruments, careful wrapping of instrument sets, and the sterilisation of equipment used in theatres. We also ensure all instruments and complex sets are functioning correctly before they are placed in the hands of surgeons.

About you

As a Sterile Services Coordinator you will need to have

  • Completed the National Sterilising Technology Certificate Level 4 or equivalent
  • Completed the Sterilising Technology Diploma Level 5 or be willing to complete it
  • Self motivation and trustworthiness
  • Strong focus on teamwork, building relationships and customer care
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Significant computer literate

Desired

  • Supervisor experience
  • Experience using an instrument tracking computer system
  • NZSSA Membership and Registration
