Teaching Assistant IT Project Management

The Department of Computer Science & Software Engineering at Auckland University of Technology (AUT)—a part of the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences within the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies—invites applications for a full-time, permanent Teaching Assistant position specialising in Project Management, Software Development, and Software Engineering.
The successful candidate will support the delivery of the Research & Development (R&D) course, including workshops, supervision/mentoring, and project team support across various R&D projects within the Bachelor of Computer and Information Sciences (BCIS). We particularly welcome candidates who can collaborate with our Industry Project Coordinator to help source industry projects aligned with the BCIS majors. The role will also involve assisting course leaders in delivering project management-related courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
He kōrero mōu | About you
We seek candidates with a masters degree in Project Management, Software Engineering, or Computer Science, along with substantial industry experience in project management, software development, or closely related areas. Ideally, candidates will have some experience in research and teaching, with expertise in project management methodologies, software development frameworks, and software engineering practices, especially agile methods and large-scale tools and techniques. Proficiency in current industry practices for IT project delivery is essential and will contribute meaningfully to the departments applied learning focus and future growth.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for this role include helping course leaders develop and improve courses relating to IT projects while contributing to research outputs that align with the broader goals of the department and the university. The successful candidate will supervise student projects, integrating research and practical components to enhance learning outcomes. They should also demonstrate adaptability in supervision, mentoring, and teaching strategies for hybrid and online learning environments, and be willing to undertake a PhD study relating to Project management or software engineering.
In addition to teaching and research support, the successful candidate will contribute to university service, support the departments strategic objectives, and foster strong academic-industry links. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant professional experience that bridges theory and practice.
