Trade Operations is a dedicated unit at BNZ that manages International Trade, including imports and exports. The team, located in Auckland, is responsible for advising, processing and assisting customers and internal stakeholders on matters related to international trade. This position is a hybrid role based in Auckland, requiring three days in the office and allowing for flexible work on two days. Mō te Tūranga | About the Role We sat down with the People Leader (who you would report to) and they told us the following about the role: What are 5 day-to-day tasks the person in this role will complete?
  • Responsible for liaising and building strong relationships with Financial Institutions Groups, International Banking Services and Risk Participation Partners regarding bank line usage and divestment activity.
  • Providing pricing for confirmation of Letters of Credit after conducting comprehensive investigations into potential risk and identifying key factors.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining a comprehensive database and spreadsheets of all pricing requests.
  • Processing Domestic and International Bonds and Guarantees and Shipping Guarantees.
What is the team culture and environment like? Trade Operations is a large team based in central Auckland however we are very close-knit team. We are brought together by our passion for the job and pride in supporting BNZs customers in this specialist area of banking. We encourage staff to learn many roles in International Trade so they can develop and grow their skill and experience, support their colleagues wherever possible and, in time, develop into a Senior Trade Associate. What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? It is a very unique and diverse role, where you get to deal with International Banks and Risk Participation Partners and you work closely with the wider Trade Team, Product Manager and Correspondence Team. You get to know more about Trade Finance Products and market risks associated with it. After considering different factors you make decision on what price to Quote for Confirmations. What technical skills are REQUIRED for this role?
  • Understanding of international trade and finance products and services.
  • Sound understanding of letters of credit, bonds and guarantees and the associated International Chamber of Commerce rules.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to legal agreements.
  • Ability to influence, build and maintain ongoing relationships internally and externally.
  • Analytical Skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
