Auckland Council’s Summer Internship Programme runs from 23 November to 19 February and offers paid, hands‑on experience at the Living Wage rate of $29.90 per hour. If you’re in your second‑to‑last year of study or continuing into a master’s programme, this is your chance to grow your skills, build your network and contribute to meaningful mahi for Tāmaki Makaurau.
\nAuckland Council’s Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience (HWFR) department is dedicated to managing, planning, and developing stormwater systems. We work collaboratively with iwi and communities to future‑proof Auckland’s water, ensuring healthy environments and resilient stormwater systems.
\nWe are seeking a passionate and motivated intern to join our Storm Readiness Delivery team. As a Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience Intern, you will support our team in ensuring the delivery of industry best practices and pragmatic stormwater solutions.
What you’ll be doing during your internship\nDuring your 12‑week internship, you’ll be part of the Storm Readiness Delivery team, supporting mahi that contributes to the delivery of stormwater and flood resilience projects.
\nYou’ll gain exposure to a range of capital works projects that may include pond renewals, fish passage improvements, outfall upgrades and pipe renewal projects. Working alongside experienced project managers and engineers, you’ll build a practical knowledge of project delivery while contributing to work that helps improve the resilience of Auckland’s stormwater network.
\nYou have a keen interest in infrastructure delivery, and have a genuine interest in stormwater, flood resilience, or environmental management, and enjoy solving problems and learning from experienced professionals.
\nYou’re a strong communicator who enjoys working with others, can manage your time effectively, and are comfortable using Microsoft Office applications. An interest in data analysis or fieldwork would be an advantage, along with a willingness to get involved in both office‑based and site‑based activities.
