The organisation is seeking an experienced Store Manager to plan, organise, direct, control, and coordinate the day-to-day operations of its dairy/superette. The Store Manager will be responsible for the overall commercial performance of the business, including purchasing, pricing, inventory management, budgeting, staffing, customer service, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Retail Store Operations
1. Plan, organise, direct, control, and coordinate all aspects of the store's daily operations.
2. Ensure the efficient operation of the dairy/superette while maintaining high standards of customer service.
3. Monitor store performance and implement strategies to improve sales, productivity, and profitability.
4. Ensure the store is well presented, clean, and adequately stocked at all times.
Purchasing and Inventory Management
1. Determine product range based on customer demand and seasonal requirements.
2. Purchase stock, negotiate with suppliers, and maintain strong supplier relationships.
3. Monitor inventory levels, minimise stock losses, and conduct regular stocktakes.
4. Ensure stock is rotated appropriately and perishable goods are managed effectively.
Pricing and Sales Management
1. Set and review product pricing to maintain competitiveness and profitability.
2. Plan and implement promotional activities and in-store merchandising.
3. Monitor sales trends and adjust product offerings to maximise revenue.
Staff Management
1. Determine staffing requirements and assist with recruitment and selection.
2. Train, supervise, and support store staff to maintain high performance standards.
3. Prepare staff rosters and allocate duties efficiently.
4. Monitor staff performance and provide ongoing coaching and development.
Customer Service
1. Maintain high standards of customer service throughout the store.
2. Resolve customer enquiries and complaints promptly and professionally.
3. Build positive relationships with customers to encourage repeat business.
Financial and Administrative Management
1. Prepare and monitor store budgets and operating expenses.
2. Oversee cash handling, banking, and reconciliation procedures.
3. Maintain accurate sales, stock, and financial records.
4. Monitor store performance against business targets and implement corrective actions where required.
Compliance and Health & Safety
1. Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, health and safety requirements, and employment legislation.
2. Maintain security procedures to minimise theft and stock loss.
3. Ensure the store complies with all relevant licensing and regulatory requirements.
Skills and Experience Required
A minimum of two years' relevant retail management or supervisory experience;
OR
A New Zealand Qualification Framework (NZQF) Level 4 qualification or higher in a relevant field.
(Either qualification or work experience is required.)
Proven ability to manage a retail business independently.
Strong leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment and make sound commercial decisions.
Other Requirements
1. Ability to pass a character check.
2. May be required to pass a drug and alcohol test.
3. Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays.
