Job Description

As Area Committee Chairperson you will provide leadership to a passionate group of volunteers working to enhance health and wellbeing in the local community.

You will lead the development and delivery of an annual Community Impact Plan, ensuring it reflects local needs and aligns with Hato Hone St John’s Community Health Strategy and regional priorities. Working closely with the Community Engagement Manager and reporting to the Regional Trust Board, you will guide the committee to deliver purposeful, community-focused initiatives that address inequities and strengthen local partnerships.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Leading and facilitating engaging, well-run committee meetings.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with iwi, community stakeholders, health providers and local networks.
  • Championing Māori health equity and supporting meaningful iwi engagement.
  • Overseeing the development and management of the committee’s annual budget in line with organisational policy.
  • Ensuring effective portfolio leadership across the committee (e.g. Treasurer, Secretary, Property and Volunteer Welfare).
  • Representing Hato Hone St John at district forums, community events and regional gatherings.

You will bring:

  • Strong people leadership skills with the ability to guide, motivate and hold others accountable.
  • Confidence chairing meetings and facilitating constructive discussion and decision-making.
  • The ability to think creatively, work collaboratively and build partnerships across diverse groups.
  • Experience in strategic planning and leading a team and/or significant project.
  • An understanding of, or willingness to grow your capability in, Māori health equity and cultural competence.
  • Comfort using email and online systems to support your role.
