About the Role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Clinical Pain Service provides expert nursing care and advice that is evidence‑based and will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across the health sector. The CNS provides support and knowledge to patients and Whānau/family living with acute and chronic pain to assist them in understanding and participating in treatment choices, and transitions of health care needs.

About the Team/Service/Location

The Clinical Pain Service primarily manages acute and chronic patients admitted into hospital. The team manages daily ward rounds assessing patients pain, providing recommended pain management techniques and medications. This is a small effective team who works closely with the anaesthetic department, surgical, medical and orthopaedic teams.

About you
  • Registered practicing nurse with pain management experience
  • Post graduate education -preferably holding or studying towards a Masters degree relevant to pain management
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of pharmacology and neurobiology of pain
  • Experience in dealing with patients with substance use disorder and palliative patients
  • Strong interdisciplinary skills and ability to work collaboratively with wider hospital services
