Job Summary

 We are looking for an experienced and Skilled Chef to join our busy café on a full-time, permanent basis. You will prepare and present high-quality café meals and cabinet food, assist with menu planning, maintain excellent food safety and hygiene standards, and support the efficient operation of the kitchen. The ideal candidate will have strong cooking skills, work well under pressure, and be committed to delivering consistently high-quality food and excellent customer service.

Job Description

As a Skilled Chef, you will be responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality café-style meals and cabinet food while ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and customer satisfaction. You will work closely with the café team to deliver efficient kitchen operations in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present breakfast, brunch, lunch, and other café menu items to a high standard.
• Prepare fresh cabinet food, including sandwiches, wraps, salads, savouries, pastries, slices, muffins, cakes, and other baked goods.
• Assist in planning menus and developing seasonal dishes and daily specials.
• Ensure all food is prepared, cooked, and served in accordance with established recipes and quality standards.
• Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation to maintain consistency.
• Order, receive, inspect, and store food supplies and kitchen ingredients appropriately.
• Monitor stock levels and assist in managing inventory to minimize waste and control costs.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen in compliance with New Zealand food safety and health regulations.
• Ensure all kitchen equipment is operated safely and maintained in good working condition.
• Follow all health and safety procedures and contribute to a safe working environment.
• Work efficiently during busy service periods while maintaining high food quality.
• Supervise, train, and support kitchen assistants or junior staff when required.
• Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service and a positive customer experience.
• Perform other reasonable kitchen duties required to support the smooth operation of the café.  Skills and Experience
  • At least three years of relevant experience as a Chef.
  • Experience preparing café-style cuisine and cabinet food.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen operations.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable, hardworking, and able to perform well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible to work weekends, public holidays, and rostered shifts as required.
