The Bean Coffee Roastery & Café is a locally owned cafe based in Whakatane. We are passionate about serving high- quality, freshly roasted cofee, alongside fresh cabinet food and breakfast options in a warm and welcoming environment.  We are now seeking a Chef and a Barista to join our team full-time (minimum 30 hours per week). 

Chef's duties will include:

  • Planning menus and estimating food and labour costs.
  • Planning and organising food preparation and cooking 
  • Monitoring quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
  • Discussing food preparation issues with managers, kitchen and waiting staff.
  • Demonstrating techniques and advising on cooking procedures.
  • Preparing and cooking food.
  • Explaining and enforcing hygiene regulations.
  • Supervising and training cooks and kitchen staff.

Skills and Experience Required for Chef - Our ideal candidate would have:

  • either a minimum of 2 year relevant work experience or a relevant qualification 
  • Flexibility to work over any day of the week and must be available to work split shifts and weekends
  • Availability to work on public holidays as per the roster  

Payrate for Chef will range within $25 to $30 depending on the experience.

 

Barista's duties will include:

  • Preparing, serving, and selling drinks, bottled and canned beverages 
  • Making high-quality coffee including lattes, cappuccinos, and other espresso-based drinks
  • Selecting and grinding coffee beans to ensure consistency and quality
  • Cleaning and maintaining bar areas, coffee stations, and espresso machines
  • Collecting payments and operating cash registers accurately
  • Promoting products and services to customers
  • Washing glassware and maintaining an organised bar setup
  • Tapping kegs and managing supply lines
  • Replenishing drink dispensers, shelves, and refrigerators
  • Serving light snacks
