We are looking for hammerhands/carpenters to carry out works in open spaces in the parks and reserves of the Auckland Council.

The job is full time with a minimum of 32 working hours per week.

Due to the nature of our work, the ability to lift heavy materials and manouver large and weighty objects is part and parcel of this position.

The applicant will report to either the site foreman or, if organising a small team separately, to the company's project manager.

Having a valid drivers license and transport is essential, but for the right employee the company will pay for fuel usage.

We will look favourably at applicants that have a Site Safe qualification, though this is not essential.    Any new employee without these qualifications must agree to be put through the Site Safe H&S qualification system.  

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out a wide range of carpentry tasks including setting up profiles, foundations, formwork and general carpentry skills in assembling and fabricating timber bridges and boardwalks.   Concreting skills are also a desirable ability.
• Read and interpret drawings and construction plans to ensure work is completed accurately and to specification.   This includes the ability to set out the job using profiles accurately.
• Maintain high standards of workmanship and site safety at all times.
• Work effectively within a team, communicating clearly to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.   The ability to manage a small group of hammerhands or labourers will be looked at favourably.
• Operate independently when required and take responsibility for your work.

Requirements:

• The applicant must be either a resident or have a valid work visa.
• The applicant must have a valid drivers licence.
• Minimum of 2 years’ proven building experience.   The requirement to be LBP qualified is not required, though having an appropriate trade qualification is desirable.
• The ability to speak english clearly and consisely.   The employee will be exposed to interaction with the general public at times, which is an ongoing issue within the parks and reserves environment and they must both present themelves well and represent the company in a good light.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.
• It is essential that the applicant  has experience in working with all the normal hand and power tools commensurate with the carpentry trade, including the use of digital measuring and leveling devices.
• Reliable transport and a strong, punctual work ethic.
