As part of our strategic transformation into a technology-driven manufacturing business, we are investing in automation, intelligent production systems, and advanced manufacturing technologies. We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to support our transition into a smart manufacturing environment.

This role will focus on integrating automation, robotics, and intelligent systems into our production processes. This is a permanent full-time position, and you are required to work at least 40 hours per week between Monday and Saturday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and continuously improve mechanical production systems used in kitchen cabinet manufacturing, including cutting, assembly, finishing, and installation processes
  • Analyse existing production workflows and identify opportunities to optimise mechanical system performance, efficiency, and reliability, reducing downtime and material waste
  • Lead the design and implementation of automated and semi-automated production solutions, including conveyor systems, mechanical handling equipment, and process integration
  • Develop and integrate robotic-assisted systems (e.g. robotic arms, automated picking systems) into manufacturing operations, ensuring compatibility with existing mechanical infrastructure
  • Design and implement machine vision-assisted inspection systems for quality control, integrating cameras, sensors, and mechanical components to detect defects and ensure product consistency
  • Prepare and review mechanical design documentation, including technical drawings, system layouts, equipment specifications, and process diagrams in accordance with engineering standards
  • Conduct mechanical system testing, commissioning, and validation, ensuring all equipment meets operational, safety, and performance requirements
  • Perform root cause analysis of mechanical faults and production issues, and implement engineering solutions to improve system stability and lifespan
  • Collaborate with production, operations, and IT teams to deliver integrated manufacturing systems, ensuring seamless interaction between mechanical equipment and digital technologies
  • Support the development and optimisation of custom-built machinery and tooling specific to cabinet manufacturing processes
  • Monitor and analyse production data to drive continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing throughput, precision, and cost efficiency
  • Ensure all mechanical systems comply with New Zealand engineering standards, health & safety regulations, and industry best practices
  • Manage external contractors and suppliers involved in machinery installation, maintenance, and upgrades
  • Provide technical guidance and training to production staff on the use and maintenance of mechanical systems and automated equipment

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field OR
  • At least of three years of proven experience in automation, robotics, or manufacturing systems
  • Experience with industrial systems, production optimisation, or mechanical design
  • Ability to integrate technology into mechanical systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
