An exciting opportunity is available for a compassionate and experienced Suicide Prevention & Postvention Navigator to join their dedicated team based in Manukau.

This is a full-time, permanent position working Monday to Friday, 8.30am–5.00pm, with occasional flexibility required to provide urgent support outside standard hours when communities need it most.

About the Role

You will play a key role in delivering both suicide prevention and postvention services, providing culturally safe, responsive support and helping strengthen community capability through education, advocacy, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support local suicide prevention initiatives and response plans
  • Deliver education, awareness programmes, and training within communities
  • Build community knowledge and confidence through workshops, wānanga, and engagement activities
  • Walking alongside whānau and communities throughout their healing journey
  • Assisting whānau, schools, kaumātua, and community groups to access and coordinate appropriate services
  • Supporting communication with media while maintaining privacy and ensuring compliance with legal, court, and coroner requirements
  • Identifying and addressing potential social media risks
  • Providing ongoing support around significant anniversaries and milestones
  • Working collaboratively with regional networks, coordinators, and service providers to ensure a coordinated response

About You

You are someone who combines professional capability with genuine compassion and cultural understanding. You are comfortable supporting people through complex and sensitive situations and are committed to improving outcomes for whānau and communities.

To be successful, you will bring:

  • Experience and/or lived experience in suicide prevention, postvention, mental health, addictions, social services, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of Te Ao Māori and the ability to work within tikanga Māori frameworks
  • Knowledge of Māori health promotion models such as Te Whare Tapa Whā and Te Pae Mahutonga
  • ASIST, SafeTALK, Manaaki Ora, or similar suicide prevention training is desirable
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with whānau, communities, and partner organisations
  • Sound judgement, empathy, resilience, and professionalism
  • Strong organisational and coordination skills with confidence using reporting and data systems
  • A full New Zealand Driver Licence
  • New Zealand citizenship or residency
