About the Role

As Principal Environmental Scientist - Contaminated Land, you will provide senior technical leadership in the assessment, management, and remediation of contaminated sites. You will oversee complex investigations, ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards, and deliver high-quality technical outputs. This role is focused on technical excellence, project delivery, and mentoring junior staff. You will work collaboratively with internal teams, clients, and regulatory authorities to achieve effective environmental outcomes

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver contaminated land investigations and remediation projects, ensuring technical excellence and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee project planning, execution, and reporting, ensuring quality and consistency across deliverables, budgets, resources, and subcontractors.
• Review and approve technical reports, and provide assistance to other environmental specialties and BTW teams as needed.
• Mentor and support junior staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
• Build and maintain effective client relationships, supporting business development through proposals, networking, and industry engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
• Must hold current CEnvP certification as a minimum; preferably holds CEnvP - Site Contamination Specialist or is actively working towards this accreditation
• Minimum of 10 years in environmental consulting or contaminated land management
• Proven experience in technical leadership and project management
• Strong understanding of contaminated land regulations in New Zealand
• Proficiency in environmental sampling, risk assessment, and remediation technologies
• Experience managing contaminants such as hydrocarbons, heavy metals, asbestos, and PFAS
