Position Title: Mental Health Youth Facilitator – Location: Bay of Plenty – Team: Ākonga Navigation Team – Position Type: Full-time, Permanent – Remuneration: $55,970 - $74,626 (fixed remuneration excluding KiwiSaver)

Are you passionate about supporting young people to thrive? This non-clinical role empowers ākonga, particularly priority learners and those under 25, by providing proactive mental health support that enhances emotional, social, and academic wellbeing throughout their learner journey.

Through mentoring, guidance, activities, and early intervention, you will strengthen ākonga Te whare tapa whā, fostering connection, participation, and personal growth. Working alongside ākonga, you’ll build trust, identify needs, and connect them with resources and opportunities to succeed.

Responsibilities
  • Be a trusted point of contact for ākonga experiencing mental health challenges, offering culturally grounded support.
  • Plan and facilitate proactive workshops and 1-to-1 mentoring to help ākonga manage stress and develop life skills.
  • Recognise early signs of distress and provide immediate, non-clinical support, including referrals to appropriate services.
  • Build strong relationships with ākonga and kaimahi to create a unified support network.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of ākonga support services through cross-team initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • A Level 4+ qualification in Youth Work, Mental Health, Education, or related field.
  • Experience delivering youth work or wellbeing support services.
  • Knowledge of kaupapa Māori values and culturally responsive practices.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A commitment to equity, inclusion, and empowering diverse learners.
