To achieve this, Te Tari Pūreke delivers four core functions: effectively implementing the firearms licensing systems; managing the Firearms Registry; educating people to enable compliance with their legislative responsibilities; and promoting the safe possession and lawful use of firearms. We are committed to fostering a culture of safe and responsible firearms use, gun ownership and awareness by working collaboratively with the firearms community, our stakeholders, and fellow agencies. About the role The Arms Officer, Tasman District Arms Team will take every opportunity to prevent harm through the transparent, consistent, timely and efficient regulation of the Arms Act 1983 and Arms Regulations 1992, whilst fulfilling the administrative and educational requirements involved in promoting regulatory compliance. In this role your main responsibilities will be the vetting. You will be required to travel within a geographical area to visit licence applicants and referees, to assess the suitability of the applicant and the firearms security. Key Deliverables: Undertake interviews of applicants and referees, and inspections of firearms security for firearms licence applications. Inspect firearms held by licence and endorsement holders including dealers and inspect dealer records. Ensure all records for endorsed firearms are correctly maintained and updated. Maintain a good understanding of the Arms Act, Arms Regulations, Firearms Safety Code and other support material. Appropriately represent Te Tari Pūreke as a regulator in a public facing position. Strong interview and report writing skills. Ability to understand and interpret firearms legislation and regulations. Competency in the use of an iPhone, a laptop and Microsoft Office 365 software including Outlook. Ability to pass Police background checks. A full driver licence and reliable transport are essential as you will be required to use your personal vehicle for work purposes, reimbursement based on IRD rates.
