We are currently seeking a Software Tester to support a project within our Trade System. This is a nationally significant system enabling the smooth, secure, and controlled flow of goods across New Zealands borders. This is a critical project expected to last until the end of June 2026.

Reporting directly to the Product Manager Trade, you will be part of a collaborative team of Architects, Developers, DevSecOps Engineers, Subject Matter Experts (and others) working on this important software change project within our existing Trade Systems.

As the projects Software Tester, you will be responsible for analysing prescribed requirements, producing a test plan, reviewing your plan with project stakeholders, and conducting predominantly manual test cases.

Ensuring best practice methodologies are used, you will provide assurance the project is delivering value and is fit for purpose for the end users.

We ideally need someone who has

  • A proven ability to identify appropriate test needs based on application designs, architectures, requirements specifications, stories and other supporting documentation
  • Hands-on experience with all stages of the product life cycle of large scale, high availability systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with an ability to understand complex challenges/concepts and articulate these in a simplified, easy to understand manner
  • Demonstrated understanding of Testing best practices and approach differences when releasing to different environments within the SDLC and via a CI/CD pipeline
  • Good understanding of relevant software development topics, including development languages, databases, methodologies, DevOps, build pipelines, and automation
  • Experience in performing various types of UAT, including alpha, beta, regulation, and operational acceptance testing
  • A strong understanding of UAT testing processes, customer requirements, and real-world application scenarios to ensure product readiness and user satisfaction
  • Proven ability to work well in a highly collaborative manner
  • Able to adapt to and learn innovative technologies and methodologies as required
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working in a technical role within product driven software testing teams in a complex and fast paced environment
  • Knowledge and experience with Automation Testing key technologies such as Selenium, RestAssured API, Postman, JMeter or similar

  • Be a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident.
  • Have resided continuously in New Zealand for the last 5 years*.
  • Successful applicants are also required to pass a drug test and have a clear Police record.
  • If you are a New Zealand Citizen or New Zealand Permanent Resident who has resided in New Zealand for the last 5 years but have been absent from New Zealand for periods of 6-9 months within the past five years, preferably in one or more of the following countries: either Australia, Canada, UK or the USA then you will be required to provide overseas Police certificates for these periods spent outside of New Zealand.
