Mō te tūranga | About the Role As the Modelling Manager, you will provide technical and people leadership to the core Analytics and Modelling function, shaping Westpacs approach to risk measurement. Youll oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of capital, provisioning, and operational models, ensuring compliance with Basel, BPR, APS/APG, and IFRS standards. You will be instrumental in ensuring that quantitative models—scorecards, PD, LGD, and EAD—are robust, accurate, and timely, meeting internal and regulatory standards. Beyond model development, youll build and enhance Westpacs risk analytics capabilities, foster collaboration across business units, and drive a culture of excellence, integrity, and innovation. Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development, implementation, and ongoing refinement of risk models, ensuring compliance with Basel, BPR, APS/APG, and IFRS standards.
  • Build and nurture a high-performing team of quantitative modellers, fostering technical excellence, strong collaboration and high quality deliveries across Westpacs risk teams.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of capital, provisioning, and operational models applying best practice and industry-leading quantitative methodologies to support robust risk measurement.
  • Uphold high-quality standards in modelling, governance, and control ensuring rigour and transparency throughout the model lifecycle
  • Strengthen strategic alignment by fostering close partnerships with Westpac Groups Risk Analytics teams.
  • Oversee and coordinate credit risk-related deliverables, ensuring accurate and timely regulatory and business reporting.
  • Establish best-practice technical writing and presentation of quantitative models and risk for key stakeholders.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration between data, reporting, and business functions, to unlock synergies and enhance organisational outcomes.
  • Oversee credit risk-related outputs, ensuring regulatory and business reporting is accurate, timely, and aligned with broader organisational goals.
  • Ensure risk policies and governance are upheld, proactively influencing business decisions while maintaining strong regulatory compliance.
  • Represent Westpac in industry forums, staying at the forefront of innovations in banking, analytics, and risk management practices.
Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?
  • Minimum 7+ years experience in Risk or a related business discipline.
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks such as Basel, BPR, APS/APG, IFRS, and quantitative risk modelling.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Statistics, Mathematics or related field with extensive experience in applied analytics.
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills with expertise in SAS, SQL, R, Python, or other relevant programming languages.
  • Excellent technical report writing, review and presentation skills underpinned by a keen attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to influence senior management and build effective stakeholder relationships through effective management of complex engagements.
  • Skilled in balancing competing priorities and navigating organisational and political landscapes with discretion and sensitivity.
  • Proven leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring, and team development.
  • Risk-based professional qualification preferred.
