He angitutanga | About the role
This is an exciting opportunity for you to become part of strong, tightly-knit, and hardworking team. You will contribute towards growing conservation in the Mahaanui District alongside our Treaty partners and the community.
In this role you will:
- Work with community groups and other partners to develop conservation work programmes, draft relationship agreements, and check-in on progress and health & safety obligations
- Create and maintain positive working relationships with district Biodiversity and Recreation/Historic Rangers to be able to respond to public enquiries and facilitate connections with the local community to achieve priority conservation work
- Support with the administration of Permissions and other statutory processes applying critical thinking and problem-solving skills to process applications that are more complex.
- Manage publications, webpage updates/alerts, and create social media content
- Organise seasonal volunteer Hut Wardens and manage bulk hut ticket sales
- Event planning and facilitation
- Support the Operations Manager and Senior Ranger Community with day-to-day operations
- Support the Te Ara Atawhai Community Ranger and the programme (a 9-week skills-based MSD partnership) with administration support and field work as required
This role is based in the Mahaanui / Sockburn office in Christchurch.

If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent relationship building skills and preference to work as part of a team
- Confident to make decisions and able to work autonomously
- Highly organised and ability to prioritise
- Have excellent attention to detail and can follow processes
- Background in Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint and Excel and an ability to utilise the advanced features of these programs
- Experience working with computer-based systems
- Be passionate about working with whanau, hapu and iwi and have respect for te ao Maori me nga tikanga
- Full New Zealand driver licence
Desirable:
- Experience with working with mana whenua
- Have a basic level of fitness and an interest in undertaking Biodiversity or Recreation-based field work
- People leadership skills
- A relevant tertiary qualification
