Property and Campus Development is committed to making the University of Otago a leader in energy efficiency and sustainability through a campus-wide strategy.

Our initiatives include upgrading heating systems, enhancing the building management system (BMS) for comfort and efficiency, constructing sustainable buildings, and fostering a ‘think green mindset to reduce energy usage across all campuses.

The role/Te mahi

As an Energy Efficiency Officer, you will play a key role in assisting and supporting the Universitys energy-saving initiatives, with a focus on optimising plant operations and conserving energy.

Based within the Technical Services team, and working closely with the Energy and Building Controls Manager, Energy Analyst, Trade Services, and the Office of Sustainability, you will help drive reductions in energy consumption and support carbon reduction initiatives.

You will be working in a progressive, collegiate university environment that is leading the industry in many energy-related areas and actively collaborates with students and researchers.

Key tasks of the role include:
  • Preparing reports that identify trends in energy consumption.
  • Provide energy-related data for reporting and auditing.
  • Raising awareness of energy-saving practices across the University.
  • Assisting in the development of workflows, processes, and procedures specific to energy operations.
  • Collaborating closely with the Office of Sustainability to support carbon reduction initiatives.

Your skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako

This role is ideally suited to a recent graduate with a passion for energy management and sustainability.

We are looking for candidates who have:
  • A relevant qualification in energy-related studies.
  • Strong data analysis skills or experience.
  • The ability to produce well-written, concise non-financial reports (e.g., carbon reporting).
  • The ability to prepare professional energy reports, audits, and business cases.
  • A high level of computer literacy and excellent communication skills.

This is a permanent, full-time (37.5 hours per week) position, located in Dunedin.

The appointments range for this role is $61,360 to $65,879, top of the range is $71,150, per annum.
