Hinds Wayside Inn is a busy country tavern just south of Ashburton offering a restaurant, bar, café, bottle store and accommodation services. We are a friendly, fast-paced venue that takes pride in great hospitality and looking after both our locals and passing travellers.

Operations Manager

We are seeking an experienced, proactive, and reliable Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our hospitality business. Reporting directly to the owners, you will ensure smooth operations across all departments while delivering outstanding customer service, leading staff, maintaining compliance, and driving operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the venue, ensuring efficient service and a high standard of customer experience.
  • Lead, recruit, train, supervise, motivate, and roster staff, fostering a positive and productive workplace culture.
  • Maintain effective communication between Front of House, Kitchen, and other departments to ensure seamless operations.
  • Monitor service standards, resolve customer complaints professionally, and ensure exceptional guest satisfaction.
  • Coordinate private functions and events, ensuring customer expectations and business requirements are met.
  • Manage cash handling, EFTPOS and credit card transactions, daily reconciliations, and operational reporting.
  • Monitor stock levels, place orders, conduct stocktakes, and ensure appropriate stock rotation and cost control.
  • Ensure compliance with the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012, Host Responsibility, Food Safety, and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Maintain venue presentation, cleanliness, security, equipment, and coordinate routine maintenance when required.
  • Work closely with the owners to improve operational procedures, control costs, increase profitability, and support business growth.
  • Assist in implementing marketing initiatives and promotional activities to enhance customer engagement.

Skills & Experience

  • At least 2 years' relevant management experience in hospitality or a related industry, or a relevant qualification.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organisational, and customer service skills.
  • Sound knowledge of liquor licensing, Host Responsibility, food safety, and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Experience with stock management, cash handling, rostering, and team leadership.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and on a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
